
A Shining Example: Fr. James Channan’s 50 Years of Dedication
On 3rd September 2024, the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Lahore witnessed a grand celebration as Fr. James Channan OP marked 50 years of his priesthood. The Golden Jubilee ceremony was attended by a large number of dignitaries, including Archbishop Benny Mario Travas, Archbishop Joseph Arshad, Bishop Indrias Rahmat, Bishop Yousaf Sohan, clergy of different congregations, sisters and a large number of the faithful. With my Muslim, Christian, Hindu and Sikh friends who came to share the joy of my Golden Jubilee of Religious life on 3 September, 2024; Prof. Mehmood Ghaznavi, Syed Mufti Asia Hussain, Dr Badar Munir, Sardar Sikandar Singh, Rev. Emmanuel S. Khokhar, Rev, Amjad Niamat, Hafiz Asim Makhdoom, Pandit Bhagat Lal Khokhar and others. I am very much grateful to all of them The ceremony began with a solemn mass, led by Fr. James Channan OP, and assisted by Fathers Pascal Paulus OP Akhtar Naveed OP. The mass was accompanied by beautiful hymns and chants, sung by the Dominican brothers & sisters. The first reading was done by Mr. Iqbal, while the second reading was done by Ms. Shahida Ashar. Dn. Bashir Francis read the Gospel.

In his homily, Archbishop Joseph Arshad congratulated Fr. James on his remarkable milestone and praised his dedication to the service of the Lord. He emphasized the importance of priesthood and the role of priests in guiding the faithful.
The ceremony also included a presentation of gifts to Fr. James, offered by his family and the Dominican community. The gifts symbolized the love and appreciation of the people for Father James’ selfless service.
The second part of the ceremony took place in St. Anthony’s Hall, where a variety program was held. The program included a welcome song, a tableau, and a drama based on Father James’ life, which was greatly appreciated by the audience.
The program concluded with the cutting of a jubilee cake and a festive meal.

The celebration was a testament to Fr. James’ tireless efforts and dedication to his faith. His Golden Jubilee is a milestone not only for him but also for the entire Christian community in Pakistan.

Fr. James Channan has spent 50 years of his life serving the Lord and the people of Pakistan. His journey as a priest has been marked by numerous challenges and achievements. He has worked tirelessly to promote interfaith harmony and understanding, and has been a vocal advocate for the rights of minorities in Pakistan. Fr.James’ selfless service has earned him numerous accolades and recognition, both nationally and internationally. He has been a source of inspiration for many, and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

around the world, including from Pope Francis, who sent a special blessing for the
occasion. Other dignitaries who sent messages of congratulations include Cardinal
Joseph Coutts, Bishop Evarist Pinto, and Bishop Khalid Rehmat.
The Golden Jubilee celebration of Fr. James Channan’s priesthood was a momentous
